This week I was "gifted" with a Mac G4!
The old couple down the street were having a garage sale, because the kids are all moved out, and they can't afford to live in a 4 bedroom Victorian by themselves. So the are moving away to a gated "old folks" community in Arizona.
We visited the sale late in the day ( I couldn't afford anything anyway ) and the wife was talking to mine, commenting on all the stuff they were going to toss out because it didn't sell and they wouldn't have room in the new place. My wife bought a couple of tables for a couple bucks each, and I gave the husband $15.00 for an older table saw. Then he walked up to us when we were loading the stuff in my truck and said,
"Can you use this? Our youngest left it behind after college, she says it's too old and slow now- kinda like us" It was the G4, and a small LCD monitor. "If you don't want it, it's going in the garbage, we don't use computers anyway."
I took it , brought it home, checked it out and powered it up. It took me until last night to get all the old software together to run it on OS9 so I could keep all my Photo shop stuff.
It's running at 350mhz at the moment, a friend is sending me a 500mhz dual processor for it, and I'm trading the old beige G3 on a bunch of memory, and a better video card for the G4.
I ran this scan (posted on the home page) and about fell out of my chair. This scan was quality adjusted using auto mode only, as I have with all my scans.
I think I'm happy!!!
